VW Sales have continued to stay strong, dispite industry wide lay offs, buyouts, closures etc.   We have definately been watching this over the past few years.   BMW seemed to have the market locked, but over the last 5 years, we have seen a strong surge in Audi and VW offerings.   The quality level has also increased significantly, as well as VAG's apparent ear toward customer desires.  This is where BMW has lost direction.... chosing to do what it thinks we want, instead of listening to us.
